Steven "Vinnie" Jaworek
passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2025 in Buffalo Mercy Hospital, he was 99. He was the loving husband of Anna (Schultz) Jaworek for 25 years before she passed in 1975. He shared life with his beloved companion Linda Valetta for 33 years until her passing. Beloved father of Thomas (Donna), Gary (Joanne), Sherry (Brad) Hirschman, and Patricia Jaworek. Also survived by 11 Grandchildren: Lindsay, Steven, Tommy, Olivia, Jacqueline, Meredith, Jillian, Carly, Jacob, Scot and Anna, and 15 adoring great grandchildren.
He was born in Gowanda N.Y. and moved to Erie PA. with his family of 7 siblings. He was preceded in death by his three sisters Sophie, Loretta, Helen, and three brothers Henry, Edmund and Chester. Steve was a standout football player for Erie Academy High School and led the City League of high schools in points scored as a running back and kicker. He continued his love for the sport by playing football in college.
During WW II Steve proudly served his country as a U.S. Air Force mechanic and later while stationed in Guam as a bomber engineer (Master Sergeant). After his military service Steve earned his B.S degree in physical education and a teaching certificate in secondary science at Lock Haven State College. He continued to advance his education by amassing over 60 hours of graduate credit at Canisius, Buffalo State College and University of Buffalo.
Steve began his teaching career at Lake Shore Central High School in 1958. During his 30-year career he taught classes in Phys Ed, Science, Math, Health and Special Education. He also enjoyed coaching the Eagles baseball, football and wrestling teams while developing student athletes.
Steve had numerous interests beyond his passion for teaching. He took an active part in community organizations specifically: Scouting, Little League baseball, church affairs and village activities. As a devout parishioner of Most Precious Blood Church, he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the Chamber of Commerce of Evans and Brant and the Lake Shore Central Teachers’ association.
His daily philosophy offers the clearest insight into his character; “Thank God every day for what you have.” and “Spread a little sunshine by recognizing somebody by asking how they are or saying something nice to them.”
