Obituary of Helen H. Engler

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Hilda Mortin Engler lay for her final rest on Friday, January 19, 2024, she was 86. One of two daughters, she was born September 9, 1937, to the late Russell Mortin and Frances M. Osburn. Having lived in Angola for most her life, she married Richard Allen Engler in 1957 and raised a family with four children. Helen was a lifelong volunteer, sharing her time and talents, teaching classes for 4-H and Brownies, acting as a den mother for Scout Troop 528. She was “Mom Engler” to much of the Lake Shore School swim team, making pasta dinners for a houseful of swimmers on the days of home swim meets. She continued her community connections, volunteering with the American Legion, VFW, Meals on Wheels and any group where she could lend a hand. Helen and her sister Sharon were always the most cheerful spectacle to encounter, talking and laughing throughout their lives and staying close to each other through thick and thin; a cherished memory and fond life lesson. She spent a lifetime teaching her kids about fairness and objectivity. True to her nature, she lived it every day. She was the loving wife of 40 years to the late Richard (Dick) Engler. Loving mother of Mark (Monique Kruis) Engler, Michael Engler, Paula (Brad) Bowen and RaeAnn (Richard Beatty) Engler. Sister of Sharon F. (late Joseph) Kenney. Mother-in-law to the late Christina Ann (Krasinski) Engler. Grandmother of Zachariah Engler, Brandon and Breanna Bowen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call FRIDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2024 from 3PM-7PM at the ADDISON FUNERAL HOME, INC. 262 N. Main St. Angola, NY, where services will be held SATURDAY FEBRUARY 3, AT 10 AM. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Angola, NY. FLOWERS GRATEFULLY DECLINED. Memorials may be made in Helens name to a charity of one’s choice.
