Mildred McClendon McSkimming, 83, passed away in her sleep on November 27, 2014, at Brookdale Senior Living, Houston, Texas, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer/Dementia. She was the beloved wife of the late William McSkimming Jr, whom she was married to for over 50 years. Surviving is her brother, James (Francis) McClendon, brother in law, Elmer (Marlene) McSkimming, and sister in law Mary (Mark) Konieczny; three children: Vera (Dennis) Knutson, of Houston, Texas, William (Judy) McSkimming, of Saint Simons Island, Georgia, and Douglas (Maria) McSkimming, of Jamestown, New York; nine grandchildren: Brian McSkimming, Daniel McSkimming, Megan McSkimming, Vera Lynn Knutson, Laura Knutson, David Knutson, Jennifer (Bradley) Olmstead, Jeffrey McSkimming, and Adrianna McSkimming; three great grandchildren: Vincent, Dominic, and Lorenzo Olmstead, and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was born on July 28, 1931, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Mildred and Robert J. McClendon. She was a cryptographer in the Army from 1949-51, stationed in France. Mildred and Bill moved to Angola in 1967, and participated in all of the community activities. Mildred was an active member of 1st Congregational Church U.C.C, past Matron of Angola Chapter O.E.S., V.F.W., American Legion , and Silver Sneakers. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years, coordinated the Telephone Assurance Program for over 10 years, and collected for the Salvation Army Kettle Drive. Mildred enjoyed walking, reading her Bible, knitting and crocheting, cooking for church activities, visiting shut-ins, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at Addison Funeral Home, Inc., 262 N. Main St., Angola. The funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at the 1st Congregational Church U.C.C.
