Mrs. Pearl really helped inspire my lifelong love for the natural sciences. I still remember doing astronomy observations for her class 20 years ago! Requiescat in Pace.

Delene was a longtime friend to me. I visited her class just about every year, for 20 years at Lakeshore Middle School. In that time, we got to know each other well. We generally followed the same routine. I'd arrive in late February, visit and chat with her class, then address a larger assembly. Afterward, we would go to the teachers' lounge and chat some more about work and family. Over the years, I saw the wonderful relationship Delene had with her loving daughter, Christine, and with her lively classes. Delene was a totally devoted teacher and mother, and when she retired I missed my yearly trek out to her school. I feel privileged to have befriended her and to watch her work her magic with the students, some of whom now run into me as adults and remember the visits. It was always reassuring to come and mark this benchmark in each year. She made her mark. And I will miss her along with all of you.

Dear Nick and Delene's family, I cannot tell you how sad I am to hear of Delene's passing. I not only went to school with Delene but played softball with her for Chicks and bowled with her. I have so many wonderful memories of these years and Delene. I pray that your memories of her will keep you strong through this difficult time and know that God has another angel in heaven with him. Nick and Christine, We are Megan's parents. We just wanted to tell you how very sorry we are for your loss. However inadequate those words are, they come from the heart. You are a wonderful family who have always welcomed Megan at your home. She has had many good times there. I remember when she came home so excited about the earrings Pearl had given her. Thank you for the friendship you have given. Please know you are always welcome at our home. If you just need a free night from cooking, or anything else, we would be more than happy to help. Thinking of You, Kim and Nancy
