So many over the years thought we were related because of our last names. In reality, this was an honor to be compared with Ray the great person and officer. Godspeed my friend!

I first met Ray in 1990 when I transferred to Attica c.f. What a great guy, always always nice to me. Ray moved on to Gowanda c.f. I transferred to Gowanda in 97 and one of the first people I saw there on my tour of the facility was Ray Kowalewski. Still a great guy and still always nice to me! I used to look forward to making rounds when Ray was working. We would sit, drink coffee, reminisce about Attica and laugh our asses off. It was a pleasure working with Ray but even more of a pleasure knowing Ray as a person. Rest In Peace.

My buddy for almost 30 years, I was honored to have worked with him as a correction officer both at Attica and Gowanda Correctional Facilities, I was even more honored to have called him my friend. Will miss our talks late into the night about family, friends and the job. Even though retired, Ray never stopped caring about the people he had worked along side with, He will be remembered by many of us as "old School" and as an officer's officer. I will also remember him as a father, friend, and one of the funniest dude's I ever knew. Bass o Rama will never be the same ! My deepest condolences to Ray's family and friends. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the honor of working alongside Ray at Attica and then at Gowanda Correctional Facility. Anyone who worked with him never had to wonder if Ray "had his back". Ray was always an Officers Officer, and I'm proud to say I learned alot working alongside him in A block. He was one of the very best. RIP Ray.
