Jay R. Addison

Of Angola, NY entered into rest after a lengthy illness on September 26, 2018, Age 71, Jay was born in Buffalo, NY  March 26, 1947 to the late E. Joseph Addison and Mariellen Garlock, growing up in the Angola/Evans Community. After graduating from Lake Shore High School, Angola, NY  in 1965 he attended Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY  receiving his degree in Funeral Directing in 1968. Jay worked the following 5 years for  O’Rourke & O’Rourke Funeral Home in Salamanca, NY before taking a position with  the W.S. Davis Funeral Home in Arcade, NY. In 1981 he and his wife Mary Margaret (Buchner) Addison purchased the Heimburg Funeral Home presently known as the Addison Funeral Home,  in their hometown of Angola, NY,  where they operated the business for over 30 years before passing it on to their sons Randy and Scott Addison in 2011.  Jay was an active volunteer throughout the years, formerly coaching youth football for the Salamanca Sabres and Tri Town Trojans, serving many officer positions including Chief with the Delevan Vol. Fire Co and Angola Vol. Fire Companies., a former member of the board of directors with the Steeple View Housing Development,  Claddagh Commission and Evans Brant Chamber of Commerce,  former 4 year councilman with the Town of Evans,  past member of the Fortune Lodge #788 F&AM,  a 26 year member and past president of the Evans Township Lions club where he was recipient of  the Melvin Jones Fellowship, Robert J. Uplinger and International President Appreciation Awards. Jay and Mary enjoyed traveling and skiing with friends, as well as exploring the western states with their recreational vehicle. Jay was also an avid archer and trap shooter participating in many events at local area gun clubs. He will long be remembered for his handsome smile, quick wit and humorous story telling abilities. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Margaret (Buchner) Addison, two sons; Randy (Barb Sedita) and Scott (Danelle) Addison, grandchildren; Parker, Alexis, Jared and Jacey Addison, brothers; Jeff "Robin" (Linda) Addison and Ken Kloss. He is pre deceased by his son Terry J. Addison and parents; E. Joseph Addison and Mariellen (Garlock) Braeges. Family will be present to receive friends Sunday  from 6-8 PM and Monday from 3-8 PM at the Addison Funeral Home Inc. 262 Main Street, Angola, NY . Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM in Most Precious Blood Church, Angola, NY. Please assemble at church. Interment services will follow in Brant Cemetery, Brant, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Angola or the SPCA.
