Ronald C. “Ron” Gilbert Sr.
Of Portland, NY passed away in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital on Saturday, October 6, 2018, after a brief illness, surrounded by family, he was 74
Ron was born in Silver Creek, NY on June 23, 1944, to the late Lovis & Ruth (Miller) Gilbert. He was a resident of Chautauqua County, NY for most of his life. Ron married his bride of 56 years, Caroline (Walters) Gilbert on October 13, 1962, in Stockton, NY
Ron held various jobs in his lifetime, he worked on the pipeline, and he was a cook, a bartender, painter, and handyman. He was a jack of all trades and could fix pretty much anything you could break, but the most important job he held was being a family man.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes, poker, and bingo; loved family cookouts/gatherings and enjoyed gliding around the dance floor with his bride. Ron was beloved by everyone that knew him; he was a strong man with a heart of gold. He always had a wisecrack to make you laugh and gave the world’s best bear hugs.
Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers; Lovis Gilbert Jr., Richard Gilbert Sr., Miley Gilbert Sr., Kenneth Gilbert Sr., Paul Gilbert Sr. and sisters; Betty Pierce and Mary Ann Walters.
Ron is survived by his wife Caroline, his children Charlene Greene (Jeff Hamilton), Ronda (Donald) Hebner, Lisa Gilbert, Ronald Gilbert Jr. (Marie Snyder), Sherry Stanford and Jimmy Jo Diabo. His brother Raymond Gilbert Sr., 17 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:00PM in the Sinclairville Fire Hall 30 Main St. Sinclairville, NY 14782
