Dad and Mom were as close as two people can ever be, raising five kids in the same house where they started their family in 56 years ago. We were blessed to watch them celebrate their Golden Anniversary. Other than his hospital stay, Mom and Dad were apart only once for three days when Dad had to work out of town. He loved spending time with his 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. It was his true joy. He fully lived up to his standards, which were the standards of his generation, a generation unlike my own, whose world view was shaped by the severe hardship of the Great Depression and the near calamity of WWII. He never asked for a handout, always paid his taxes, helped those in need, and took care of his family. He always did the honorable thing. He is now at rest with my sister Ann. He did the best he could with what he had. He set the example for me and my brothers and sister. He was the hardest working man I ever knew.
