Elsie Glasgow Geiger (nee Cooper), formerly of the Western New York Area, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 in the Citadel Care Center, Mesa Arizona, she was 101. Born Elsie Avanell Cooper on May 28, 1909, in Montgomery, PA, she married Maurice E. Geiger on April 17, 1971. Maurice predeceased her on February 3, 1995.
Elsie is survived by her children, Paula G. Patton of Durham, NC, Raymond C. Glascgow of Silver Creek, NY, Janet Knoell of Amherst, NY, Donna Lee of S. Burlington, VT., and the late Robert W. Beck, Angola, NY, William G. Beck of Silver Creek, NY and Catherine "Jean" McGriff of Mesa, AZ. Also survived by her sister Ethel Reasner of Tonawanda, NY and her daughter-in-laws Shirley D. Beck of Angola, NY and Suzanne M. Glasgow of Kenmore, NY. Her life was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Robert Beck,Donald Beck, James Erhard, Daniel Erhard, Darlene Brochman, Laurel Patton, Michele Semones, Stephanie Lewis, Scott Glasgow, Molly Glasgow, Timothy Glasgow, Carrie Weston,Christopher Knoell and Kimberley Scepovic. Also survived by 25 great grandchildren.
Proud to be a Centenarian, Elsie was known for her wit and lively spirit through out her life. Moving from Clearfield, PA to New York in 1950. Elsie spent many years in Silver Creek, NY and on East Delevan Avenue in Buffalo raising her family, often working two jobs, and sharing her parenting duties with her sister Ethel. After her children were grown, dancing became her joy, and a gateway to new life and love. In 1983 Elsie and Maurice relocated to Arizona and never looked back, delighting in the warmth of the desert southwest. Always active in the life of her church, she formed a wonderful friendship with her former pastor and his wife, Wayne and Shirley Sumpter, of Mesa, AZ, who lovingly cared for her right to the end.
Family and friends may call Friday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the ADDISON FUNERAL HOME, INC. 262 N. Main St. Angola, NY where funeral services will be held Saturday at 9AM. Interment will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery, Tonawanda, New York. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Cancer Research.
