Caroline R. Gilbert, age 76, of Portland, NY passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021, after a brief illness surrounded by family. It was then that she rejoined her late husband, Ronald, and they danced into the clouds together.
Caroline was born on April 14, 1945 at home in Randolph, NY to the late Paul & Virginia “Ginny” (Meacham) Walters. Caroline was a resident of Chautauqua County for most of her life. She married the love of her life, Ronald Gilbert Sr. on October 13, 1962 in Stockton, NY.
Caroline held several factory and farm jobs in her lifetime, as well as the job of housekeeper which she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement. Her most important job she held was that of mom and grandma.
Caroline had many hobbies, she loved to attend bingo with her family and friends, she enjoyed playing lotto, loved to listen to gospel music every Sunday, collecting nicnacs, and loved animals especially her precious doggies (Sparky, Carley, Puppy and Susie-Q). Caroline adored her family and enjoyed their gatherings; if you were lucky to be playing music you could often catch her and her love gliding across the dance floor (or making their own). Caroline was a sweet soul and everyone who met her loved her.
Besides her parents, Paul and Virginia Walters, and her husband Ronald, Caroline was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael Walters, Fletcher Walters, and her sister Pauline Kelley.
Caroline is survived by her children Charlene Greene (Jeff Hamilton), Ronda (Donald) Hebner, Lisa Gilbert, Ronald Gilbert Jr. (Marie Snyder), Sherry Stanford and Jimmy Joe (Jamie) Diabo. Her sister Catherine (Bob) Cole, and brothers; Jon “Doc” (Liz) Walters, Richard Walters; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild (and another on the way) and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Stockton Cemetery in a private ceremony on Saturday, November 6 and Celebration
