Obituary of Carmen Philip Provenzo
Please share a memory of Carmen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmen Philip Provenzo, 87, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, formerly of Angola, NY passed away, Thursday, February 2, 2023, to the tune of Fly Me to the Moon. Predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Sara, and five older siblings. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Cynthia “Sunny” Provenzo. And beloved family: son Craig (Sandy) Provenzo. Daughter; soul-twin Carla (Joe) Giambrone. Son Curt(Amy) Provenzo. Grandchildren Brianna (Mike) Kustigian, Jocelyn (Tufan) Bayram, Joshua,Claire, Jackson & Michael Provenzo. Great-grandchildren Liam & Henry Kustigian. Many close nieces and nephews. Carmen was a life-long member of Most Precious Blood Church, where he served as an alter boy when the Mass was still said in Latin. As an adult he served as an usher for over 60 years. An avid Yankee’s fan and sports enthusiast, he coached and managed several baseball teams. In the 60's, Carmen managed a “Beer League” and was affectionately called “Mother” as he often brought food and drink to his Beer League team who came directly from work. Craig accompanied Carm to games as the ‘bat boy’ and would often fall asleep under the pool table at the Meadow Brook Restaurant (the team’s sponsor). In the 80's, Carmen was the pitcher in the Southdown's Travel slow pitch softball league sponsored by South Shore Inn. Carm and Nino LaRusso coached the Evans Recreations Department League known as “The Boys of Summer” a town of Evans baseball team that included Curt and his friends. They won many of the end of season tournaments. Carm was truly a hometown guy from Angola, and greatly enjoyed these years with friends and team members from surrounding towns. Carmen worked for 40+ years on the railway at Bethlehem Steel Plant in Buffalo, NY. One of Carmen’s greatest gifts were his fantastic singing voice. He blessed many with big band era songs, and was affectionately nicknamed ‘Frankie’ in his later years. He sang throughout his life. One of Carla’s greatest treasures is a duet of the song Unforgettable that she made with Carm just a few years ago. She has a library of his songs that will be passed on for generations to come. Carmen served his family, church and community with steadfast love and diligence. He will be greatly missed.
