Roger Jon VanOverstraeten,


Age 86, of Angola, NY, died peacefully on December 18, 2024, in Mercy Hospital. Born in Blue Island, IL, on April 27, 1938, he was the son of Frank and Gladys VanOverstraeten.


After high school, Roger joined the U.S. Army. He was a Staff Sergeant and served from 1961-1964.


Roger married Jeanne Hall on October 8, 1966 in Mount Olive, North Carolina. They moved to Pittsburgh, PA and eventually settled in Derby, NY to raise their children.


Roger started his career in Buffalo as the Director of Dietary at Mercy Hospital. He then worked for McCullagh Coffee as Vice President of Operations and later moved on to work for Premium Coffee in Buffalo, NY as an account executive and master roaster.


Roger volunteered with the Boy Scouts and coached baseball with Evans Youth Baseball. He enjoyed golfing, bowling with his wife and playing cards with family friends.


He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters and brothers-in-law, June (Tore) Skaug, Jean (Wallace) Heinecke, Marlys Johnson and his brother, Frank VanOverstraeten.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne E. VanOverstraeten. His daughters, Vera Lynn (Lance) Spurrier and Lori Thomas, and his son, Roger (Jeanna) VanOverstraeten, Jr. His five grandchildren, Roger VanOverstraeten, III, Joshua (Bridgette) VanOverstraeten, Ashleigh VanOverstraeten, Emily Thomas and Tessa Spurrier and his great-grandchild, Carsyn Pickelsimer.
