Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony "Tony" Alfred Schifano, 81, passed away on February 19, 2013 after a final bout with cancer. Tony passed peacefully and painlessly in his sleep, surrounded by his family and with his wife faithfully by his side. Tony was born in Farnham, New York on January 10, 1932 as one of five children. Tony proposed to Angeline "Angie" (Simon) Schifano on December 29, 1951, and they were married on May 17, 1952. Tony served for four years in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Upon leaving the military, he worked at Interstate Trucking Company as a dispatcher while attending college. Shortly after, Tony joined Ford Motor Company in 1957 where he continued to work for 31 years. In addition, Tony served his local community as president of the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Department. In 1970, Tony opened Schifano's Service Shop, which specialized in bike repairs. While working at Ford and running his bike shop, Tony enjoyed time with his wife and children as well as snowmobiling, and riding his motorcycle. Tony was also a member of Most Precious Blood Church in Angola, New York. Tony was the proud father of two sons, Mark A. Schifano and Donald J. Schifano, and he adored his daughters-in-law, Sherry and Elaine Schifano. Tony shared in the joy of the birth of his two granddaughters, Lauren E. Schifano and Jennifer L. Schifano. Tony and Angie became owners of a second home in Port Richey Florida in 1993, purchased on Tony's 61st birthday. Tony and Angie enjoyed being "snowbirds" and travelling seasonally between their two homes. In his retirement, Tony's hobbies included visiting his family, going on walks with his wife, bowling, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, golfing, and keeping up with the latest technology. Tony's fondest memories include his 50th wedding anniversary celebration in which he renewed his vows with his wife, watching his granddaughters graduate from college, and celebrating his 80th birthday with his family last year. Tony is survived by his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law, and his granddaughters. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Marie (Schifano) Terreri, his niece Laura (Bevan) Terreri, and his nephew Bobby Terreri. Also, Tony is survived by 7 nephews: Louis, Gary, Ronald, Douglas, Angelo, John "Jay," and Rich Schifano as well as his sisters-in-law Lucille (Schifano) Gradl, Joan Holtz and her daughters, Lynne Kaminski and Gail Miller. Tony's deceased family members include his parents, Grace and Louis Schifano, his brother Angelo "Pete" Schifano, sister Josephine (Schifano) Jackson, Baby, Nancy, and niece Cheryl Anne Jackson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at Holy Spirit Parish at 2017 Halley Road, North Collins, New York 14111, which will include a visitation at 9:00AM immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements By Addison Funeral Home Inc.
