So sorry to hear of Russ' passing. John and I met at the Rollercade in 1979 and married in 1981. I worked there for a while as 'the snack bar" girl and on occasion as a skate guard. Many good times being remembered right now. Russ, you lived a long and good life. May God Bless you and your family.

My mom wishes she could be here to personally give condolences because her and my dad met at the Rollercade when she was 13. Their tradition of skating on a Friday night was passed to me and my brothers and in the 70's it was our place to go. My brother David was a skate monitor and dressed as a clown on occasion for parties. My brother Ben took lessons and learned to dance on his skates...he still has his originals. We are all saddened by your loss and the memories will live on in our hearts forever. God bless the whole Valvo family.

Oh, how I remember the fun days on Lake Street with all of you. Being two doors away we were always in each other's yards. Nothing was better when Saturday afternoon came and I went roller skating. I always waited for Russ to spot me and call me over to the middle of the rink to swing me around. That was my highlight! Many, many fond memories. I'm sure my mother, Lena, is making a pizza for Russ and Carm "up there". Love, Gayle and Peter, too

Oh my gosh, lovely memories of Russ. Watching him and my Aunt Ginny Tanner dance skating was always a pleasure. All the friends I made skating there myself. It was the place to be. He was a great man and enjoyed all of us. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Family of Russell, I am the accordion player at Tanglewood on Tuesday mornings for the past several years. Russell was my most loyal "groupie" being there almost every time. He would come in and sit as close as he could. He was the only one that the staff allowed to sit where he did. (Even in their eyes he was special.) He would often hum or make other druming type noises along with my playing so I had my own percussion section. He would always order an apple juice and some cookies. When I had my apple juice I would "skol" in Swedish and he would "salute" in Italian and we would click our glasses. Over the year's we developed a special relationship. It was my honor to play for him his 100th "Happy Birthday," He would talk about the early days of living in Western NY. He mentioned how teen-agers were different back in his roller rink days. He talked about how much he missed his wife. We were working on having him on a radio show called "Times of Your Life" where he could talk about living for 100 years. When he had to move to Heritage, I planned on bringing my accordion to that facility so I was saddened when I heard that he had passed along. Just wanted to share with you the special relationship we had and that I am thankful that I knew him. I also want to pass our condolences on to the family and to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Don Sandy
