Daniel S. Rickert was a "man about town" or maybe a better description would be a "man about village". Dan loved Angola. He knew everyone and everyone knew him, whether they knew his name or not. When Dan lived in Angola, he could be seen almost constanly walking through the village, shopping and talking to people.
To know Dan, to really know Dan was to love him. He didn't immediately let you into his life. He had to get to know you and to find out what kind of person you are. Once you were in, you were in and you had a friend for life.
Dan loved and cared about people. He also loved sports especially baseball, the NY Yankees and the Bisons. He knew the statisics and their game schedules.
Dan was a craftsman who was proud of all of his tools and loved working with wood. He loved to show you his work if you were lucky enough to be one of his close friends.
Dan will be sincerely missed by his friends and loved ones. He, and his loved ones, were extemely gratful for the help he received at the Elderwood Health Care facility in Hamburg as well as the St. Columbian Center in Shedian. Dan loved and cherished his time at the Columban Center as well as the friends he made there and the terrific staff. He often described his first Christmas at the Columban Center as the best Christmas he ever had.
His friends and loved ones are better people for having know Dan and will truly miss him.
