We have all lost a dear friend. Shirley will always be remembered for all she did for so many. As a colleague I witnessed all she did for the students and poor families at Holmes School: the Christmas home delivieries of food and gifts, meeting the school busses each morning to assess the needs of the students, coming to the classroom with her box full of hats, gloves, scarves etc. for children going on a field trip who did not have these things. The way she met with families and counseled them. When any of us had a health concern we turned to her and she was always there for us.I will always remember all the bridge games and good times we had. She was a special friend and I will always cherish her memory. My thoughts and prayers are with Sam now during this sad and difficult time. Helen Foley

Sam we cannot express to you the sorrow we felt when we heard of Shirley's passing. You both have been so welcoming to us whenever we visit David and Donna at the lake. Gail always enjoyed it when Shirley joined Donna and Hunter for their walk on the beach. Again our sincerest sympathies are extended to you and your family.

Sam, I am so sorry for Shirley's passing. For many years, we were good friends at Kenmore West, and that friendship continued to grow as we became more skilled at playing bridge together. Our monthly bridge get-together extended our friendship after we retired, and I so looked forward to the summer Thursday when we played bridge at the lake. Our card group has lost a lovely and loving lady, and she will have no replacement.

I am so very sorry to hear about Shirley's passing. I attended Kenmore West Sr. High during the late 60s/early 70s while Shirley was a nurse there. I was undergoing some significant situations with my home life and Shirley became such a dear and wonderful support and friend. I have stayed in touch with her now & then throughout the years and enjoyed my few conversations with her as much as I did during those trying days. My prayers and sympathy to all the family whom I know Shirley loved as much as life itself.

Dear Sam, We are so sorry that you have lost Shirley. She was such a compassionate woman. We admired all the work she did with the students and families at Holmes, and how you both delievered the holiday food to those needy families. Shirley was such a gracious person. She made all feel welcomed , and then she fed us with her delicious food! So many wonderful memories are centered around our visits to you both, especially at the cottage. Even our grandson, Hayden, at 3 years was hooked on "the lake" and Shirley made those times special. Shirley was remarkable in her hardiness. When we visited Arcadia Park in Maine, she was the only one of the 9 of us, who went totally under that frigid Atlantic water!! Shirley had such a generous heart, as both of you shared in the care of Lena in her last years. Having 2 nurses, Shirley and Jeanette caring for Mom was reassuring to us as we were too far away to help much. Shirley was also generous to all pets, and our dogs were spoiled at Shirley's hand! She took such good care of Honey, and the picture of her walking Honey on the beach is indelible! Shirley was always camera shy, which was a shame with her 100 watt smile! One of our last memories of Shirley was her sitting at our newspaper covered table, eating steamed crabs with butter running down her chin. Life doesn't get any better than that! Shirley, you will be so missed! We love you! Al and Linda
