Born and raised in Pennsylvania, he moved to Angola, NY after serving a short stint in the U.S. Army. After his arrival in Angola, he managed the Grandview Supermarket and went on to become a sales representative for General Foods. In that role, he received the award for Outstanding Sales Performance in Supermarket Services.
These experiences prepared Mr. Geidel to become the owner of the Bells IGA grocery store in Angola, which he operated for nearly 20 years. During that time, he worked closely with the Lake Shore High School Guidance Department to identify students who were seeking employment in order to offer them their first jobs. When the Bells store closed, he operated an embroidery and screen printing business with his daughter Lynn. In addition, he worked for National Fuel securing easements and right-of way rights from landowners across Western New York.
Although not a graduate of Lake Shore Central, Mr. Geidel considered himself an "adopted son" in the community, as he spent most of his adulthood living and serving in the Evans-Brant area. He is best known for his 32 years (1965-1997) as a member of the Lake Shore Central Board of Education and 26 years as Board President.
As a community leader, Mr. Geidel served as a 25-year member of the Lion's Club (two years as President, where he helped establish youth days at Crystal Beach. He was a member of the Marine Midland Advisory Board, a member of the Board of Managers of Erie County Sewer District #2 and a committee member of the NYS School Boards Association. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce and an honorary member of the LSC Alumni Association and inducted into the Lake Shore "Wall of Fame" in 2007.
